Morolake Akinosun’s name has been linked with the sport of Track & Field for quite some time. Success on the track is something that has been expected with Morolake’s presence at a track meet, this success began during her days at Waubonsie Valley and continued during her days at the Universities of Illinois and Texas. In high school, Morolake was a four-time All-Conference, All-Sectional, and All-State Selection from 2009-2012. During her time at WVHS she was all state in a total of five events: 100 meter, 200 meter, 4 x 100 relay, 4 x 200 relay, and the 4x 400 relay. In addition, Morolake was a member of the 2009 team that finished 2nd in State! After graduating from WVHS, Morolake took her talents to the University of Illinois where she immediately saw success as a freshmen. During her freshmen year at Illinois she was a 60m and 4x400m Big 10 Champion during the indoor season and a 100m Big 10 Champion in the outdoor season. By the conclusion of her freshmen year she found herself an All-American in both the 4x400m and 100m while also taking home the Big 10 Freshmen of the Year honors! Morolake’s final three years of college took place at the University of Texas, but the success on the track remained the same! During her three years at Texas she amounted the following accomplishments: fourteen time Big 12 Champion, twenty-five time NCAA All-American, and four time NCAA Champion. Morolake was a part of a Texas program that won six Big 12 Championships. In two of those six Big 12 Championships Morolake finished as the high point scorer of the meet. In 2016 Morolake was honored as the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year. Since completing her college career, Morolake took 4th place at the Olympic Trials in the 100m and competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics where she became an Olympic Gold Medalist in the 4x100.
