Waubonsie Valley High School has had its fair share of successful baseball players, and Michael Bowden is right up there at the the top of the list. While in high school, Michael's baseball accomplishments have been matched by no other baseball player in Waubonsie Valley history. On the baseball diamond, Michael was a three-time Upstate Eight All-Conference selection, two-time Chicago Tribune/Beacon News/Daily Herald/Naperville Sun Player & Athlete of the Year, two-time member of the All-State team, 2005 TPX, Streets & Smith & USA Today All-American, 2005 Gatorade Circle of Champions Illinois High School Player of the Year, and 2005 Baden National High School Pitcher of the Year. Michael Bowden's name is all over the WVHS Baseball Record Book. His batting records include: highest batting average in a season (.496), hits in a season (58) & career (130), runs in a career (97), and doubles in a season (17). Michaels WVHS pitching records include: innings pitched in a season (86), strikeouts in a season (185) & career (389), lowest ERA in a season (0.41) & career (0.91). Bowden pitched 2 no-hitters during his career; one of which was a perfect game! In his three seasons as a Varsity pitcher Michael Bowden ended up with a 28-5 pitching record. In a day and age where a number of student-athletes specialize in one sport, Michael also competed at a high level on the basketball court, where he received 2005 Upstate Eight All-Conference and Daily Herald All-Area honors. After high school, Michael Bowden was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the supplemental round (47th overall) of the first-year player draft. Michael made his Major League Baseball debut on August 30, 2008, for the Boston Red Sox.
