Herschel Dixon attended Waubonsie Valley High School from the fall of 1993 until the spring of 1997. During his four years at the Original Valley he made the most of his experience and participated in three sports (football, basketball, and track & field). As a football player, Dixon was a three-year Varsity member. During Dixon’s Sophomore season the Warriors finished 9-3 on the season and were UpState Eight Conference (UEC) Champions and IHSA State Quarterfinalists. As a senior, Dixon received UEC All-Conference recognition along with All-Area honors. In addition, Dixon rushed for 1,028 yards for an average of 6.4 yards per carry and 11 touchdowns during his senior campaign. Dixon’s three year Varsity career saw him rush for a total of 1,826 yards on 296 carries and 21 touchdowns. During the winter months at Waubonsie Valley High School Dixon was a member of the boys basketball program and a two-year varsity player. As spring rolled around for Dixon, he quickly put on his track shoes and competed on the boys track team all four years of his high school career. In 1996 Dixon was a member of the Warrior 4x100 relay team that finished 7th in the state. As a sophomore Herschel Dixon was a part of an IHSA Sectional Championship Team, the first Sectional Championship in boys track in school history!
After High School Herschel Dixon attended Western Kentucky where he played football and ran track. It was football that lead him to WKU to play under the leadership of head coach Jack Harbaugh. In 1997 Dixon was a part of a team that advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Herschel Dixon graduated from the University of Louisville with Magna Cum Laude distinction.
After graduating from the University of Louisville, Dixon has remained in Kentucky and has become an award-winning children’s book author and motivational speaker. Herschel Dixon’s first book, “A.J. and the Talent Show,” was released in February of 2015.
