Marty Miller was the head girls bowling coach from 2010-2017. During this time, he had an overall record of 265 wins and 18 loses, that is a winning percentage close to 94% as a head coach! In conference matches his record was more astonishing as he led his teams to 202 conference wins and only 2 losses during his 8-year tenure. Coach Miller has the credentials for our athletic hall of fame as he guided his teams to six conference championships in the Up-State 8, five top five finishes in the IHSA state series, and finishing third place the during the years of 2012, 2015, 2017. It was his two state championships, in which he coached the 2013 and 2014 teams to a back-to-back state title that was the pinnacle for his coaching tenure at Waubonsie Valley. During that two-year run they were also regional and sectional champions four times. At an individual level he has coached 31 all conference, 40 state qualifiers, 4 all state athletes, and one individual state champion who now bowls on the professional circuit. Marty Miller’s records stand for themselves; however, it is his approach towards coaching that puts him on a hall of fame level. His unrelenting pursuit in looking for collegiate opportunities for all his bowlers who he has coached, or his quick rebuttal to anyone whoever challenged the assertion that a bowler was not an athlete showed his persistence in making women bowling one of the most successful programs in our school history. Coach Miller was selfless with his time and energy to the sport of Women’s Bowling and Waubonsie Valley. Marty and his wife Penny have been married for 48 years. They had three children that graduated from Waubonsie, Deana 1993 (Graduate from University of Illinois), Martin 1995 (Graduate from Northern Illinois University), Matthew 2001 (Graduated from Bellarmine University). His family, along with his four grandchildren keep Marty continually in the role as coach and mentor.
